Sales at the food manufacturer behind the Aunt Bessie's brand have increased thanks to the acquisition of a food delivery business.
Aunt Bessie's is part of William Jackson & Son, which also owns Jackson's Bakery, Hazeldene salads, Parripak vegetables and Abel & Cole.
The firm is based in Hull and employs around 2,000 staff. William Jackson established the food business back in 1851 with the opening of a grocery store. His great great grandson Nicholas Oughtred is now the chairman of the firm.
The company has released its latest filed accounts for the year ending 26 April 2014, which shows increased like-for-like sales by 7.2 per cent, bolstered by sales of £24.1 million from the organic food delivery business Abel & Cole. This led to increased turnover of £40 million to £268.5 million with pre-tax profit also rising, from £12.6 million to £15.5 million.
The results come despite recent fallouts from a competitive retail market. Dividend payments of £2.9 million and a final dividend of £1.9 million were proposed for accounts in 2014/15 thanks to the company's performance.
The group confirmed that it was confident that profitable growth will continue in the future with ongoing investment from its "stable and engaged ownership structure" in the business.
