UK manufacturing output in April jumped to its highest level since September 1994. The data from the CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index points to the sector having expanded by as much as 2 percent in the last 3 months.
This has been led by a strong growth in exports due, in part, to the weakening of the pound whilst the UK’s trading partners emerge from recession.
However, some manufacturers are still struggling in the recession. As such, there are good opportunities for larger businesses in the sector to buy up rivals and further increase market share, as the trading conditions continue to improve.
