A Somerset-based recycling business has announced its second major acquisition in under a month.
Viridor Waste Management, which provides recycling and rubbish collection services to private firms and local councils, alongside operating 22 landfill sites, has acquired Swinnerton Environmental.
The £1.8 million purchase of Manchester-based Swinnerton Environmental, which processes plastics and paper prior to recycling, comes less than a month after the acquisition of Adapt Recycling.
Viridor purchased Bury-based Adapt, a 20-strong firm with a £3.7 million-turnover, for £700,000.
Director of Viridor North, Mark Burrows Smith, said that both acquisitions would help to expand the business in the 'key recycling areas.'
Chief executive of Viridor, Colin Drummond, said, “The UK’s waste strategy demand ever-increasing levels of recycling.
“This is a fast-growing part of Viridor’s business which accounted for 26 per cent of the company’s profits in the first half of 2010/11.
“These acquisitions have an excellent geographic and business fit with Viridor’s existing operations in Greater Manchester,” added Mr Drummond.
The latest acquisition will see Swinnerton Environmental integrated into the northern regional operations of Viridor.
