Y Lanfa, the 150-berth marina business in Aberystwyth, is up for sale on the open market; a rare occurrence since the recession hit.
Merlin Homes owns the site but has reportedly decided to sell the business through property advisers Colliers International in order to pass the marina on to “a more experienced operator who can develop the business”.
The marina is the first in the UK to be put up for sale on the open market since 2008 and will be sold for around £2.5 million.
John Rushby, head of parks, sports and marinas at Colliers, told the BBC: “The reason for the sale is the owner is a property developer who developed the wider basin and shore side area.
"He is not an experienced marina operator ... but has built trade to a point where it is time to sell to a more experienced operator who can develop the business and he has other projects he can now focus on instead.
"Marinas tend to be sold off market, so when they do go up for sale on the open market they attract significant interest."
Annual berthing fees at the marina are around £1,745 for vessels up to five metres in length and £3,775 for those up to 14 metres. In addition to the existing 150 berths, the marina has planning permission for a further 40 berths.
