Two meat processing plants owned by the farmer-run co-operate ANM Group have been put up for sale.
Scotch Premier Meat and Yorkshire Premier Meat are for sale as part of a strategic review of the group's operations, which was prompted by losses of around £6 million in the firm's meat processing operations.
The latest company accounts show that Scotch Premier made a loss of £1.79 million on a £55 million turnover, while Yorkshire Premier made a loss of £1.39 million of a £47 million turnover.
A short statement from the board put the emphasis on refocusing the group on its traditional core business. This includes auction and valuation services and its property portfolio.
It also noted that the company has made substantial improvements to the costs and operations of both firms since the company accounts were released despite the ongoing difficult trading conditions within the industry.
Business as usual is set to continue for the customers of both plants for now but NFU Scotland Northeast chairman Charlie Adam noted on behalf of local farmers he hoped that a buyer could be found soon.
