The World Famous Embassy Club in Manchester, which was once owned by controversial comedian Bernard Manning, has been put up for sale.
Founded in 1959, the club in Harpurhey has been owned by Mr Manning’s son – also called Bernard – for the past 15 years.
Manning Jr told BBC Radio Manchester: "I want to see if anybody is interested in running the club as it is or enhancing it and breathing some new life into it.
"I'm the other side of 50 years of age and I'm thinking of the future because my own children are certainly not interested in getting involved."
While it was owned by Manning Sr, who died in 2007, the Embassy Club hosted the likes of Cilla Black and Englebert Humperdinck. The comedian also claimed that The Beatles had once performed in the Manchester venue, but there is no evidence to support that claim.
Manning Jr added that the business is performing well at the moment and that the new owners would benefit from buying “an iconic place in Manchester” that has built up “56 years of goodwill”.
The club once ran regular cabaret shows, often featuring Manning Sr, but since he retired and the venue was taken on by his son it has been turned into a pub with a private function room.
