Environmental Essentials, a specialist asbestos services firm backed by BGF, has completed the third acquisition in its buy-and-build growth strategy. The firm has acquired health and safety provider Callidus Health & Safety Limited for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition follows Environmental Essentials’ 2022 takeover of Adams Environmental and its deal for Quality Environmental Services Limited, completed earlier this year. The latest acquisition provides the firm with a route into previously untapped markets, including health and safety and asset management.
Callidus, which is based in Leeds, provides health and safety, asset management, project management, environmental services and training. The 18-strong company works across sectors including retail, healthcare, education and infrastructure and its clients include the University of Leicester, Marks & Spencer and NHS Lothian.
James Riley, Executive Director and co-founder of Environmental Essentials, commented: "The acquisition of Callidus makes perfect sense for Environmental Essentials, adding health and safety capabilities to our existing services of water hygiene, air hygiene, and asbestos management. As major areas of compliance, they are all highly complementary from a business perspective and create a compelling proposition."
Alex Sleeth, executive chairman at Environmental Essentials, added: "By incorporating the wealth of expertise and capabilities of Callidus into our business, it allows us to diversify our offering and, with it, gain national coverage. Not only does it allow us to cross-sell our existing services into new and untapped markets, while providing our workforce with a fantastic opportunity to upskill in the area of health and safety, but it also strengthens our compliance proposition."
BGF has invested a total of £5.6 million in Environmental Essentials, helping the company in its mission to become a 'one-stop-shop' for key compliance services such as water hygiene, asbestos management and fire risk management across the UK.
The Stoke-on-Trent-headquartered company has six UK offices and employs more than 230 staff. Its services include asbestos management, water and air hygiene, training and surveying, with clients including public sector organisations, businesses and local authorities.
Following the company’s latest deal, BGF investor, Jon Earl, added: "The acquisition of Callidus is yet another demonstration of the team's ambition and desire to build a company that has the strength and depth, in personnel, services and technological capabilities, to meet the growing needs of customers across the compliance landscape."
