A popular hotel chain is putting one of its feature hotels up for sale after its owners have reportedly decided to 'concentrate on other business interests'.
The Big Sleep Hotel chain, which is predominantly owned by Cosmo Fry, has hotels on the Eastbourne seafront, and in Cheltenham and Cardiff. However, it has decided to sell the Eastbourne branch for offers in the region of £1.6 million.
Launched back in 1999, the chain was described by the Travel Trade Gazette as the 'Travel Lodge with sex appeal' and has enjoyed successful trading over the past couple of decades. Its Eastbourne property has 50 bedrooms and provides meeting facilities for up to 50 delegates.
Mr Fry told the Eastbourne Herald that the group will be sad to let the hotel go: “The idea was to develop a sub-brand of Big Sleep on the Beach and I think we succeeded.
“The idea behind the larger rooms was to allow the guests to recreate a sort of Big Brother on the Beach atmosphere. We were aiming to develop the theme all along the South Coast, which we see as very much uncharted territory for today’s hotel trade.
“It is extremely sad for us to be putting the hotels up for sale having put so much effort into them.”
