Leading UK independent builders’ merchant MKM has acquired HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) distributor Oceanair UK Limited. The deal, part of MKM’s expansion plans, sees it make a strategic move into the HVAC sector.
Oceanair, which was founded in 2002 and operates from locations in Mansfield and Crawley, is a prominent UK HVAC distributor. The company is a specialist distributor for several major brands, including Fujitsu and Panasonic, and has successfully transitioned into the air and water markets.
Following the acquisition, the company will continue to operate under its existing name, ensuring continuity for the firm’s strong, established network of customers and suppliers. MKM said that Oceanair owner Tony Evanson will remain with the business “for the foreseeable future” to provide support during the transition.
Evanson commented: “I have thought long and hard about selling the business and was adamant it needed to go to the right home. I’m very pleased to be around the business to support the MKM team and look forward to seeing Oceanair grow under its new ownership.”
The acquisition was led by MKM Business Development Director Rob Barnes who expressed confidence in Oceanair’s growth potential. Barnes said: "This acquisition fits perfectly with MKM's plans for expansion, allowing us to branch out further into the HVAC industry. Continuing to work closely with the current Oceanair team guarantees a seamless transition, customers and suppliers can expect business as usual."
He continued: “Oceanashp.co.uk, part of Oceanair, specialises in heating and concentrates on designing, supplying, commissioning, and supporting air-to-water heat pumps. Their Heat Pump Training Academy conducts courses on design and installation and has recently earned recognition as a "Centre of Excellence" by Panasonic. This fits perfectly with our commitment of offering more sustainable options to customers.”
