A sale of Cambuslang Golf Club could still take place with members recently voting to continue negotiations on the matter.
A meeting was held last week (3 November) with 180 full members attending to vote on proposals regarding the potential sale, with 71 per cent voting in favour.
The discussions regarding the sale arose after the club received interest from Barratt, the house builders. Barratt estimate that the land is suitable for a residential development worth almost £7 million, which would result in a windfall for the golf club's qualifying members should they decide to go ahead and sell.
Reports from the Daily Record confirmed that an email was sent out to members following the meeting in which the club captain Craig Cochrane said that the current state of play “does not mean the golf club will be definitely sold but it is perhaps the first step in that direction”.
He added: “Having said that, the role of the committee and officials will still be to provide a facility worthy of all the members and visitors. Therefore investment must continue to be made to ensure 'business as usual' going forward.”
If a sale does go through, it is likely to take around three years to process everything from start to finish.
The golf course has nine holes and was first opened in 1892.
