Compliance group Celnor has acquired Chester-based environmental consultancy APEC Environmental as part of its ongoing private equity-backed M&A drive. APEC Environmental specialises in asbestos testing and inspection and has four offices across the North East, North West, Yorkshire and South East.
The company provides comprehensive asbestos surveys and testing services for an array of sectors across the UK. The acquisition complements Celnor’s service offerings in the testing, inspection, certification and compliance (TICC) space.
Celnor, which is backed by private equity firm Inflexion, was launched in October last year and has already made a raft of acquisitions. The company is targeting UK, US and European firms with profits of £250,000 to £10 million that provide TICC services to the environmental, industrial and infrastructure sectors.
Mazars was lead financial adviser on the deal, with Mazars partner Dave Hilton commenting: “This deal represents a fantastic result for the shareholders of APEC, and it has been a pleasure to advise on this deal for this long standing client.”
“It’s great to see the owners achieve this result and I wish them continued success over the coming years. I am sure the business will continue to go from strength to strength under Celnor’s ownership alongside Simon and team.”
Peter Keeling, director and shareholder of APEC, added: “We have had a positive working relationship with Mazars for over five years. The team exceeded expectations by ensuring the process was as smooth as possible with their constant support.”
