The Leeds bolt supplier who provided those used in the Cheesegrater skyscraper in London has been bought out of administration.
Andrews Fasteners Ltd has been in operation since 1981, supplying bolts for major projects around the UK, including London’s Cheesegrater building, which saw several bolts come loose and fall to the ground last year.
The firm was placed in administration on 16 January, with administrator Chris Brooksbank of Cleckheaton-based O’Haras working to find a buyer. AFC Products has bought the company, which is under the control of former Andrews Fasteners director Michael Carey. Following the sale, AFC changed its name to Andrews Fasteners.
The sale has meant that 20 employees at the company will retain their jobs, as well as the securing of future contracts and orders.
Michael Carey, director of Andrews Fasteners, said: “Following this restructuring, we believe we are in a much stronger position to take the business forward.”
A spokesman for O’Haras added: “This is the best possible outcome for this well-established business and its loyal workforce. With an experienced director at the helm who really understands the sector, Andrews Fasteners has a brighter future ahead.”
Back in November last year, the 122 Leadenhall – nicknamed the Cheesegrater – saw two bolts break off and fall to the ground. A third bolt fractured and was caught in safety tethering more recently.
Andrews Fasteners is said to be supplying extra bolts to the building in line with a precautionary replacement programme.
