The Griffin Nursery, a children’s day nursery in Bootle, Merseyside, has been taken over by a West Midlands childcare entrepreneur in a bid to boost her growing portfolio.
Shakila Ali, who is the owner of Stepping Stones (Grange) Limited childcare business headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent, made the acquisition from Maitland Nurseries Limited, with the deal arranged and advised by Abacus Day Nursery Sales – a division of Blacks Business Brokers.
Ali currently also owns two other nurseries: the Hannah Daycare and Birchfield Nursery in Birmingham.
The sale of The Griffin Nursery was inspired by its ex-owner’s, Geoffrey Maitland, decision to retire. Maitland initially purchased the nursery in 2008, but placed it back on the market in 2018 with the help from Abacus Day Nursery Sales at the end of 2018.
It went on the market for an asking price of £99,950 and reported a turnover of £173,460 in the business’s most recent financial year. The nursery is also registered with regulator OFSTED for 35 places, and received a “good” rating at its most recent inspection.
Ali’s acquisition of the business will now allow her company as a whole to provide more than 170 full-time childcare places.
Sales negotiator at Abacus Day Nursery Sales, Chelsea Melnyk, said: “I am really pleased we were able to secure a rapid sale for our client, which means not only can he get on with his retirement plans but also that parents and children will also be able to continue to access high-quality childcare.
“I am also happy we have been able to help Mrs Ali grow her portfolio and expand into a new region – she is building a really exciting business and I look forward to seeing it progress.”
