MPM Group, a composite mouldings manufacturer and supplier based in Bramley, Leeds, has acquired a long-time collaborator based in County Durham. The target company, Lamplas, designs and produces glass fibre composites used in a wide array of products.
According to MPM, the acquisition is set to expand its product portfolio, bolster its manufacturing capability and technical expertise and grow its market reach. The combined business, which will include a workforce with more than 90 skilled team members, will be focused on a long-term growth strategy.
Post-acquisition, operations at Lamplas’ site in Consett will continue as usual, with the current team and facility remaining in place. The two companies will also collaborate to share best practices and work together on projects.
MPM Group (Moulds Patterns and Models) was formed in 1978, while Lamplas was formed in 1971. Lamplas’ glass fibre composites include motorhome and campervan parts, life rafts, shower cubicles, baths, basins and speaker casings.
MPM Group Managing Director Ben Wilson said that the company had a longstanding admiration for Lamplas, with the two firms having worked together on a number of projects for more than 20 years.
He continued: "This acquisition brings two long-established family businesses together, combining our strengths, qualities and values to bring even more value to our customers’ supply chains.”
"We are excited about the opportunities ahead, working with a great team, and welcome Lamplas into the MPM family."
Lamplas Managing Director Keith Siddle said that joining MPM Group would ensure the continuation of the company’s legacy, including its family roots, skilled workforce and focus on quality, “with the backing of a partner that understands and shares our values.”
He added that the deal would generate opportunities for the company’s staff and customers, as well as for future growth.
