Following a decision by its landlord to move on, the Hound Inn in Arlecdon, Cumbria, has been put onto the market for £750,000.
The pub offers 'fine dining' in a 1954 vintage railway carriage housed in its grounds and is for sale through Meridian Business Sales.
The railway carriage, which is known as Orchid, was used as a Royal Train to transport the body of Lord Mountbatten from Waterloo to Romsey after he was killed by an IRA bomb in 1979. It was originally built in Doncaster in 1955 to seat 42 first-class train passengers.
Today, Orchid can seat 30 people for dinner and has its own bar, as well as its original wood panelling and curtains. Alongside Orchid, the Hound Inn boasts three bedrooms and a games room.
Meridian Business Sales says, “This popular and well known business has been established since 1863 and has been in the capable hands of our clients since 2005.
“The only reason it is being offered to the market is due to our clients’ family commitments. This is an opportunity for a lifestyle change for someone who is looking for something with several revenue streams, which still has massive potential.”
The Hound Inn has a current turnover of £183,000, according to Meridian Business Sales.
