Exception PCB Limited, a longstanding printed circuit board manufacturer headquartered in Tewkesbury, has been brought back into UK ownership after being acquired by Wright Industries, part of the Connexion Technologies Group.
Exception PCB, which was previously under Asian ownership, was founded in Cheltenham in 1977 before relocating to Tewkesbury. The business produces printed circuit boards for a wide array of industries, including telecommunications, defence, automotive, aerospace and medicine, employing a team of 100 staff. The company’s products, manufactured at its UK facility, include quick-turn, HDI, flex and multi-layer solutions.
The deal is described as reflecting the focus both companies have on strengthening UK manufacturing capabilities, coming at a time that the government is seeking to enhance the country’s critical industrial infrastructure.
By bringing PCB Exception back into UK ownership, the acquisition is seen as strengthening British industry, supporting skilled jobs across the UK and protecting key supply chains.
Exception PCB General Manager Kamal Berberi said that the company has “a proud history rooted in British engineering," adding that following the takeover the company would “continue developing strategic technologies that serve our customers."
Connexion Technologies chairman and Chief Executive Craig Wright said: "Bringing Exception PCB back from Asian into UK ownership strengthens our national manufacturing resilience, aligns with UK Government objectives, and opens new opportunities to innovate, invest, and lead.”
"The business has undergone significant recent investment in its processing technology to place it at the forefront of PCB manufacturing globally and we are proud to support its continued growth."
Following the acquisition, the company will join other Wright Industries investments, including Pure PCB, Accura Engineering, Castle Microwave and Custom Interconnect. Wright Industries, which is headquartered in Burton-on-Trent, is a specialist provider of investment, development and turnaround services for SMEs in the UK’s engineering industries.
