GEV Wind Power, an East Yorkshire-based provider of services to the wind energy industry, has been acquired by Certek. The acquisition takes Certek’s revenues past the £100 million mark on a pro forma basis, with the group also having a strong pipeline of future deals
GEV Wind Power provides services including inspection, monitoring, rope-access and maintenance to on-and offshore wind turbines worldwide, with clients including some of the world’s biggest original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and wind farm operators.
The firm is able to support its global client base through operational hubs in the UK, Europe, North America and Australia, deploying in-field technicians that can support owners at thousands of wind farms. GEV, which has been backed by Bridges Fund Management since 2019, undertakes over 300 projects each year and has a specialist pool of more than 500 technicians.
An FRP Corporate Finance team led by partner Dave Howes were appointed as sell-side advisers and undertook a thorough marketing and sales process, attracting strong interest from both industry buyers and private equity firms.
Ultimately, Certek was chosen due its growth plans and the strong strategic synergy that the group offered. The employee-owned group, which was founded in 2024, partners with companies with strong compliance, safety and regulatory aspects to their service offering.
Certek will back GEV CEO and founder David Fletcher and the company’s existing management team, providing investment to enable it to grow across its core markets.
David Fletcher commented: "Our business plays a critical role in supporting the generation of clean energy, as we actively maintain the operational performance of wind turbines and help to reduce downtime. With Certek's backing, we will continue to increase our support infrastructure for our clients and play an active part in supply chain solutions, focusing on the consistent delivery of quality and safety that our clients demand across all key geographies where we operate.”
Dave Howes, partner at FRP Corporate Finance, added: "Having worked with GEV and the management team for over ten years, it has been fantastic to see the business evolve into a truly global market leading service provider in the wind energy industry. The investment by Certek will enable GEV to continue their growth and innovation in the sector."
