Family owned and run Delicious Ideas Food Group has bought Barnack Confectionery, leading to a substantial growth in its market share within the retail sector.
As a result of the acquisition, the Barnack Confectionery brand name will be dissolved and will continue to operate under the parent company Delicious Ideas Food Group. The Group will add a number of offers, including its own-brand goods and gifting options to its off-the-shelf division.
The fusion has increased the number of staff and warehouse facilities almost overnight, which has forced the group to relocate to new premises not far from its original site in Peterborough.
CEO Jonathan Potter said: “It’s the most ambitious step we’ve taken since building our own in-house packaging factory 10 years ago. For a long time, we’ve desired a presence in the high street retail and convenience sectors to add to our core food service client base and the Barnack acquisition. We now have a true end-to-end retail and food service brand and own-brand solution for our customers.”
Delicious Ideas Food Group and Barnack Confectionery have a relationship going back 30 years, with its founders being friends and then working closely together since 1986. The group launched its Sweet Ideas Limited division in 1991, which allowed the company as a whole to make a nationwide presence.
The company produces a range of products, from retro sweets, to vegan protein bars and even to healthy grab ‘n’ go snacks, all delivered in compostable packaging and circulated through vast distribution networks.
Managing director of Barnack Confectionery Trevor Sharpe appears optimistic about the future of the group post-acquisition and looks to further drive expansion opportunities.
“In short, we’re ripe and ready to serve both the retail and catering aspects of the confectionery and ambient snacking sector in equal measure. What I now see is a business that’s become greater than the sum of its parts, and for me, that’s really exciting,” he commented.
