Food group Regal Food Products Group Ltd has diversified its operations with the acquisition of a catering packaging firm. The group’s takeover of Packaging ‘R’ Us is its first acquisition of a non-food and drink business and reflects its long-term strategy of expanding and strengthening its offerings for the wholesale and food service markets.
In the wake of COVID-19 and Brexit, the Bradford-based company – which is behind brands including Regal Foods and Yorkshire Baking Company - has identified the need to diversify the product range within its portfolio. The acquisition means that the company can now offer catering packaging, in addition to existing services including ingredients and finished food goods.
Packaging ‘R’ Us is an established supplier and manufacturer of catering packaging. The firm specialises in a range of disposable food packaging solutions, including plastic and foil containers, disposable utensils and catering foil.
Regal Food Products Group CEO Younis Chaudhry commented: “Following on from our Just Desserts Yorkshire acquisition 18 months ago, we are pleased to be bringing our first non-food and drink business into the group.”
Chaudhry said that the acquisition would enable Regal “to develop our wholesale arm of the business, while offering our customers an eclectic range that will naturally sit alongside our existing products and brands,” adding that by “using our existing teams, manufacturing expertise, distribution networks and channels to market, we can really build and scale what is already a great business.”
Following the acquisition, Chaudhry confirmed that Packaging ‘R’ Us would relocate its production to Regal’s main manufacturing and distribution facilities in Bradford.
