Travel Chapter, a leading UK holiday letting agency, has announced the acquisition of a self-catering holiday specialist based in Cornwall. Newquay-based Beach Retreats Holidays, which was previously owned by Watergate Bay Hotel, has an extensive portfolio of coastal properties.
Bideford-based Travel Chapter, best known for its flagship brand holidaycottages.co.uk, has established itself as a leading provider of holiday accommodation across the UK, with a portfolio of regional and lifestyle brands.
Travel Chapter has seen significant growth over recent years. In financial accounts for the year to October 31 2023, it reported revenues of slightly under £90 million, up from £53 million a year earlier, while increasing its pre-tax profits from around £9.5 million to approximately £13.8 million.
The acquisition of Beach Retreats is described as reinforcing the company’s strategic ambition to expand its footprint in key coastal areas. Beach Retreats has a curated portfolio comprising more than 230 coastal properties, all located in close proximity to a beach.
According to Travel Chapter, Beach Retreats’ emphasis on the location and contemporary design of their properties, along with their commitment to guest experience, makes the company a natural fit for the group.
Travel Chapter CEO Jayne McClure said that the group had admired Beach Retreats for a number of years, citing their “high-quality properties” and “service-first mindset”.
Ben Harper, CEO of Watergate Bay Hotel Group, said that Beach Retreats has “always had bold ambitions” and that the group had been careful in “choosing the right partner” for the company to continue its growth.
Post-acquisition, Beach Retreats will continue to operate from its Cornwall base, with Travel Chapter providing support to ensure continuity and growth, both for property owners and holiday guests.
