A country house hotel in Oxfordshire has been put up for sale following a GBP3m renovation.
Eynsham Hall is known is one of the county's great country houses and was purchased by the current owner, Richard Upton and his Cathedral Group Plc back in 2005. Prior to this is was used as everything from a police training centre to a maternity ward for evacuated women during the war. More recently it was a conference centre before Upton invested millions into overhauling its interior.
The 135-room hotel and wedding venue boasts stonework fireplaces salvaged from French châteaux and master wood carvings, along with planning permission for an expansion to add more rooms or expand spa facilities.
Located near the pretty Oxfordshire town of Witney and close to Bicester Village, a discount designer shopping destination, the hotel attracts guests from all over the world.
Joint sellers Christie & Co stated: "Eynsham Hall offers a great opportunity to acquire an extensive site with the benefit of planning permission to extend the site and build revenue further. We anticipate strong levels of interest from a range of domestic and overseas operators and investors.”
The reason for the sale has been cited as the result of Cathedral Group's merger with property firm Development Securities in 2014. The two firms have now rebranded as U+I. Christie & Co explained that Upton's hotels were not included in the merger and he is now selling off these assets to focus on his role in the new company.
