Transport operator Clugston Distribution Services has bought a fellow Humber transport business out of administration for an undisclosed sum, saving 18 jobs.
The Scunthorpe-based company, which was itself bought out following the collapse of the wider Clugston Group in early 2020, has purchased the trade and assets of Trans 2 Logistics Ltd after the latter was forced to call in administrators.
Trans 2 Logistics Ltd was known for specialising in the transportation of abnormal loads. According to a company spokesperson, the firm hit hard times after the pressures caused by a loss-making contract served in 2019 were further exacerbated by the uncertainty surrounding Brexit.
A reduction in demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is also thought to have significantly contributed to the firm's financial demise. Together, these factors reportedly resulted in financial difficulties that the distribution company was unable to recover from.
The firm appointed Sean Williams and Phil Deyes, of Leonard Curtis Business Solution Group, as administrators last month. But in spite of the attempts of directors Alan Johnson and Andrea Russell to secure additional funding, the administrators were forced to launch an accelerated marketing campaign to secure a fast sale.
Commenting on the sale, Alistair Clugston, managing director at Clugston Distribution Services, stated that the company was pleased to have added an abnormal load arm to its growing business.
"The transaction had to be undertaken in a short space of time due to the constraints and pressures facing the business," Mr Clugston said. "To have been able to save another 18 jobs is pleasing, and we are hopeful that we can build on the opportunities this trade can provide to CDSL."
