Fri, 02 Jul 2010 | BUSINESS SALE
One of the UK's largest suppliers of freshwater fish has been put up for the sale by its retiring owner, who has run the organisation as a business and hobby since starting it 35 years ago.
Ken Ryder's Humberside Fisheries supplies his fish to hundreds of angling sites through the UK.
Now the 65-year-old has decided to retire and the lifestyle business is up for sale with a guide price of £1.3m.
Humberside Fisheries breeds and rears 60 tons of fish a year at Cleaves Farm in Skerne, near Driffield. Old farm buildings at the site have been turned into fish hatcheries, and there are 65 rearing ponds set in an 85-acre area.
Ken Ryder, an economics graduate, set up the business from scratch and he said, "My big hope is that somebody will buy the business as a going concern and continue the good work of keeping fishing ponds and rivers well stocked."
The sale of Humberside Fisheries is being handled by estate agents Cundalls, of Malton, North Yorkshire.
