Reactec, a workplace safety technology provider, has been acquired by compliance software firm Ideagen as it continues its buy-and-build strategy. The acquisition strengthens Ideagen’s ability to offer health and safety services to clients in high-risk industries such as mining, manufacturing and construction.
Spun out of the University of Edinburgh and still based in the city, Reactec has developed a range of wearable devices and cloud-based analytics platform, which are used to monitor worker exposure to risk factors such as dust, vibration, noise and proximity hazards.
Scottish angel investment syndicate Archangels was an early backer of the business, supporting its transformation from a hand-arm vibration (HAV) monitoring specialist to a provider of a comprehensive platform of safety technology.
Ideagen, a £185 million-turnover compliance software provider that serves more than 16,000 companies worldwide, has been actively pursuing a buy-and-build growth strategy. The acquisition of Reactec is its sixth of 2025 and follows swiftly on the heels of its addition of WorkSafe Guardian earlier this month.
Reactec Chief Executive Jacqui McLaughlin said that the deal would enable the firm to broaden its reach and scale internationally, adding that it would now be able to “provide even greater value to organisations that are forward thinking in their approach to enhancing the health and wellbeing of their workers.”
She continued: "We, like Ideagen, seek to prevent and not simply mitigate risk. We can totally see the value our technology can bring to Ideagen’s existing customer base and look forward to working with them to deliver real impact."
Archangels joint Managing Director David Ovens stated: "Over several years, Archangels has supported Reactec’s transformation from a narrow HAVs application to a broad workplace safety platform, delivering meaningful health outcomes for workers.”
“We’re particularly pleased to see recent strong growth in both domestic and international markets and we look forward to seeing the business flourish as part of Ideagen’s global network which provides the perfect springboard for expansion."
