There is a bakery business for sale in Bromborough that has been struggling to stay afloat due to rising ingredients costs.
The CSM (UK) plant was put up for sale after Dutch parent company CSM announced back in May that it planned to sell off its Europe and American bakery supplies business. This includes its Bakemark plant and the firm's UK headquarters at the Wirral International Business Park, the Liverpool Daily Post reported.
Figures have now been released showing that the company's sales for 2011 were up seven per cent on the 2010 data, rising to £156 million. However, pre-tax profits were down by 52 per cent to £5.3 million due to rises in ingredient prices.
Business is continuing as usual as the firm prepares for a sale, but it the company has noted that it is intending to recover “as much as possible” of the rising costs through “changes to selling prices, products or a combination of both”.
A recent statement lodged with Companies House added: “The company is endeavouring to meet any shortfall in recovery of this cost inflation through increased efficiencies and volumes.”
The fact that the firm is still enjoying a rise in sales bodes well for any potential buyers, who can continue the work to cut costs if they want to return CSM (UK) to healthy levels of profit.
