Investment firm Westland Assets has bought Nottingham and Manchester-based delivery firm Direct Sameday Services (DSS) and associated firms Direct Sameday Services North West and Direct Sameday Vehicle Hire.
DSS has been operating since November 1999 and has since grown to become the leading same-day courier company throughout the East Midlands region.
Direct Sameday Services (NW) Ltd opened in 2007, extending its services throughout Manchester and the North of England.
The company specialises in same-day parcel, pallet and tender document deliveries, as well as direct European services and pre-planned logistics.
It has a fleet of 60 vehicles including vans and sprinters to 44-tonne trucks and has 65 employees. It has an annual turnover of around £4.8 million helped in recent years by the explosion in e-commerce deliveries both in the business and consumer sectors.
Westland Assets said the deal was a strategic investment showing a "commitment and confidence in the UK transport industry. With an understanding of all the future challenges investors have full confidence in the DSS group of companies and a bright future ahead in 2025."
"Of all the ones I have seen in the past two years, this is the best documented and most well-run business I have seen in a long time," Westland Assets director David Whitefoot told trade magazine Motor Transport. "The business was set up just over 25 years ago and considering the (industry) regulation that has followed since then, it is a credit to the previous owners."
Westland is looking to scale DSS this year and next including geographical expansion. The deal, it has been reported, will not result in any job losses.
