Listed professional services firm Knights has strengthened its presence in Brighton with the acquisition of Rix & Kay Solicitors. Rix & Kay has a strong reputation in Sussex and earlier this year reported revenues of £4.2 million for 2024/25.
The acquisition adds 28 lawyers working across corporate, commercial property, disputes and private client practice to Knights, which has a team of 1,350 staff working at 32 locations across the UK. Since listing in 2018, Knights has expanded rapidly through M&A, completing its 25th acquisition this year.
Prior to the acquisition, Rix & Kay operated from offices in Brighton, Tonbridge and Uckfield. These are now set to close, with the company’s lawyers transferring to two nearby Knights offices. No confirmation has been provided about the future of Rix & Kay’s support staff.
Knights Chief Executive David Beech said: "Since this was announced a few weeks ago, it has become clear just how much energy and talent is joining our business. They are well known for great service, and their culture and operational model make this an excellent fit."
Beech added that Knights was confident the acquisition of Rix & Kay would “complement our existing team in Brighton and beyond.”
Former Rix & Kay Managing Partner Richard Cripps, now a partner at Knights, commented: "We have been considering our options for some time, and it is great news that we have been able to conclude our deal with Knights.”
"I have observed Knights' impressive growth across the UK over recent years and, alongside my fellow partners at Rix & Kay, am delighted to be able to become part of that closer to home in Sussex.”
"I know our fee earning colleagues will thrive in a bigger, better resourced business, and all of us are excited to be joining new colleagues in Brighton as we come together to provide a wider range of premium legal services to our clients."
