West Midlands-based pharmacy group Knights Pharmacy has further bolstered its portfolio with the acquisition of several sites in South Wales. The acquisition of the pharmacy stores from Avicenna Retail was supported by an eight-figure funding package from HSBC UK.
The newly acquired sites are situated in key community locations in the Rhondda and Cynon Valleys, along with other locations in South Wales. The pharmacies will provide access to a broader range of clinical care and upgraded digital systems, along with the support of the wider Knights group.
The acquisition brings 240 staff into the group, with all existing staff at the pharmacies to be retained post-transaction, ensuring continuity of care for patients and the retention of key local knowledge for Knights.
The deal is described as forming part of Knights’ long-term strategy to expand its presence in local communities. Post-deal the group will operate more than 70 pharmacies across England and Wales. Over the next 12 months, the family-owned firm, which was formed in 1985, anticipates a 35 per cent increase in turnover.
Knights Chemists Managing Director Anand Sodha described the acquired sites as “well-respected community pharmacies with strong local roots”.
Sodha added that the expansion “reflects the trust we have in our teams across Wales, both existing and new” and “allows us to serve even more patients in the Valleys with the care and consistency they deserve.”
Partho Bose, Relationship Director at HSBC UK, commented: "We've worked closely with the team at Knights Pharmacy for several years, supporting growth across England and Wales. The company's drive and community-centred approach aligns with our desire to back ambitious businesses.”
