Langan’s Restaurants, the renowned London chain of eateries set up with Michael Caine, has been put up for sale.
It was launched in 1976 by the late Peter Langan, chef Richard Shepherd and Michael Caine, who would entertain his fellow Hollywood actors including Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman at the flagship Brasserie off Piccadilly.
Richard Shepherd, the sole owner after Caine sold following Langan’s death, is now ready to sell the chain.
“I am reaching 65 and don’t want to die on the job. I would look for between £12 million and £14 million for the whole business.”
Shepherd, one the first British chefs to win a Michelin star, has been in discussions with advisers after trade buyers made their interest in purchasing the business known.
Langan’s has five outlets and restaurants on eleven P&O cruise liners.
Known for its choice of British classics such as bangers and mash, bubble and squeak and fish cakes and chips, the decadently decorated restaurants can together seat a total of 700 customers.
