After almost 100 years of trading, a Leicester-based dairy product and ice-cream manufacturer has fallen into administration due to rising supply costs.
Rossa Dairy Products, which specialises in Italian-style ice cream and yogurts, has called in Begbies Traynor to act as administrators and a buyer is currently being sought for the firm's assets.
Begbies Traynor said that there are already several potential purchasers who have submitted expressions of interest in restarting production at the Meynell Road site, which ceased trading just before Christmas.
Joint administrator, Ravi Sembi, said, "We still have three interested parties looking at the assets, since this is an asset-only sale. But they are all interested in the possibility of taking on the site lease and restarting production."
Mr Sembi added that Rossa Dairy Products would not be sold as a going concern, but that a buyer would find the site suitable to restart production.
"It's a ready-made operation for the right buyer to step in and get things going again without too much further investment," Mr Sembi told Foodmanufacture.co.uk.
Originally called R. Rossa & Sons when it first opened in 1996, the firm was renamed Rossa Dairy Products following a buy out in November 2007 following a previous rescue from administration. At one time, the firm employed 30 staff and supplied mainly wholesale customers, but staff numbers fell to 19 last year, and all have now been made redundant.
