Lettings software firm Dwelly has completed its latest M&A deal with the acquisition of a lettings agency based in the East Midlands. The acquisition of HC Lettings, the dedicated lettings division of Nottingham-based HoldenCopley, adds 850 fully managed properties to Dwelly’s growing portfolio.
The deal marks the latest step in Dwelly’s strategy of consolidating the UK lettings market through acquisitions, at a time when M&A activity is becoming more prominent in the fragmented sector.
Following the acquisition, HC Lettings has been carved out of HoldenCopley, which will continue to operate its sales division independently. HC Lettings’ existing management team will remain in place as part of the deal, which Dwelly said would ensure continuity for landlords and tenants, while supporting the company into its next phase of growth.
Former HC Lettings director Steven Holden, however, will remain with Holden Copley following the transition. Holden said that the company was proud of the reputation that the lettings business had built in Nottingham and that joining Dwelly would provide “the best opportunity to accelerate the next chapter of growth, while preserving the values and standards that our clients have come to expect.”
Post-acquisition, Dwelly plans to introduce enhanced property tech (proptech) solutions, including AI-driven systems, as it looks to streamline operations and drive growth, while improving the rental experience for both agents and tenants.
Steven Holden added: “The additional support, particularly through technology and innovation, will allow HC Lettings to deliver an even better experience for both landlords and tenants.”
Dwelly’s Head of M&A Sam Humphreys said that HC Lettings was “a fantastic addition” to the firm’s growing portfolio and that the acquisition “considerably strengthens our presence in the East Midlands.”
He continued: “We’re confident that through our implementation of technology-driven processes, we can dramatically improve the operational efficiency and capacity of the business, whilst reducing the friction that is found within the rental process.”
“However, as is always the case, preserving the legacy and reputation that HC Lettings has formed remains paramount and respecting and retaining the company’s identity will always come first.”
