Williams Shipping, a longstanding marine and logistics services provider, has acquired supply chain services provider GIF Transport and Logistics, as well as a significant parcel of land in Aberdeen.
Headquartered in Southampton, Williams Shipping has further bases in Aberdeen and Milford Haven and has been operating since 1894. The company’s services include vessel charter, logistics services, marine services, container hire and sales, cargo and storage and marine lubricants.
Aberdeen-based GIF Transport, which was incorporated in 2015, provides transport and logistics services across the UK and continental Europe, as well as internal and external secure storage at a 1.5 acre facility.
Post-acquisition, the company’s day-to-day operations will remain unchanged and it will continue to trade under the GIF Transport and Logistics name. Its existing management and teams will also remain in place, ensuring continuity for customers.
Williams Shipping Managing Director Jonathan Williams said: "Our transport team have already built up a solid working relationship with GIF as a supplier and a customer This new partnership is built on shared values and a joint commitment to delivering first-class service.”
"By combining the strengths of both companies, we're creating a stronger foundation for future growth while ensuring that customers continue to receive the high standards they expect."
GIF Transport and Logistics director Brian Pirie said that the deal would enable the company to maintain the service levels its customers rely on, “while also securing the long-term growth and sustainability of the company.”
He added that the two firms “will collaborate closely to build on their strong reputations and deliver enhanced value to customers across the UK logistics sector."
Alongside the acquisition of GIF Transport, Williams Shipping has also acquired a new site in Dyce, Aberdeen, which is set to further enhance services across its business divisions.
The site will become a critical operations hub for several of Williams Shipping’s core services, including facilities for Williams Marine Lubricants and container business Willbox, as well as a headquarters for GIF Transport and Logistics.
Phased development plans are already underway at the site, which is expected to become operational later this year.
Despite relatively sluggish dealmaking activity so far this year, M&A appetite is high in the UK logistics sector
