Anarchy Brew Co, a craft ale company based in Newcastle, has been acquired by a regional hospitality group in a pre-pack deal after falling into administration at the beginning of this month.
The company, which is based on Benfield Business Park, fell into administration after suffering financial difficulties in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and being unable to continue trading. Steven Ross and Allan Kelly of FRP Advisory were appointed as joint administrators on August 1.
The joint administrators have now completed a pre-pack sale of the business’ assets to Anarchy Beers Limited, a new company formed by a consortium of investors, including Northern Bar Management Ltd and restaurateur Kleo Tabaku, to take over the brewery.
Anarchy Brew Co was initially launched by founders Simon and Dawn Miles in Morpeth in 2012 and moved to its new brewery and taproom six years ago, having outgrown its original base. The brewery is known for popular IPAs including Blonde Star, Junkard, Skin Deep, Flat Out and Citra Star, which are sold at pubs and shops across the UK and beyond.
Following the transaction, a spokesperson for Anarchy Beers Limited said that all staff would be retained and that plans to expand the tap room were being explored.
The spokesperson said: “The entire team of 12 at Anarchy Brewco have been moved to the new company which will allow us to ensure continuity in the supply of Anarchy beers to all of its customers.”
“We are delighted to have been able to save this amazing brand and also to retain its dedicated and knowledgeable team and we are committed to helping Anarchy grow and take its rightful place in the craft beer scenes.”
Distressed acquisitions of craft breweries have been one of the major factors driving M&A in the UK beverage industry, which is one of the most active dealmaking markets in the wider food sector
A cherished establishment known for its hospitality and exceptional dining experience. Nestled in the picturesque Barncliffe Mills, this is a thriving business with a robust weekly turnover of £10,000.
