The Compleat Food Group, a food manufacturing group backed by European private equity firm PAI Partners, has completed the acquisition of egg products firm Freshpak for an undisclosed sum.
Operating from a 430,000 sq ft production facility in Barnsley, Freshpak employs about 500 people and generated revenues of £93 million last year. The company supplies private label chilled food-to-go snacks, poached eggs and deli fillers, as well as offering egg processing services.
Freshpak’s products are stocked in a number of major grocery retailers, including Co-op, Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, and it also supplies customers from the foodservice industry.
The transaction is the latest acquisition for Compleat, following deals for The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co, SK Foods, Zorba Foods and Harvey & Brockless. The acquisition takes its group turnover past £1.3 billion and it now has a workforce of over 6,000 staff working across 17 sites.
The acquisition of Freshpak provides the group with new capabilities in egg processing, enabling it to capitalise on growing demand for health and protein-rich foods. The deal will also bolster its existing offerings in the deli and food-to-go categories.
Compleat Food Group CEO Nick Field said that Freshpak’s “market-leading position in added-value egg products, deli fillers and chilled food-to-go is a perfect complement to our existing portfolio, allowing us to extend our capability and category leadership role to deliver further value and category growth with our existing partners, whilst also opening up new opportunities in both retail and foodservice."
Freshpak CEO Toby Brinsmead added that the firm had “built a strong reputation for quality, innovation and customer service” and that joining the Compleat group would help the company to continue growing.
