UK Addiction Treatment Group (UKAT), a provider of private residential addiction services and a portfolio company of private equity firm Sullivan Street Partners, has completed the add-on acquisition of rehabilitation centre The Providence Projects.
The Providence Projects was founded in 1996 and supports thousands of people through addiction treatment. The centre is a 44-bed facility in Bournemouth, with the acquisition significantly expanding UKAT’s presence on the South Coast and increasing its total bed capacity to 244.
UKAT, which was founded in 2012, specialises in comprehensive care and rehabilitation for alcoholism and substance abuse, as well as behavioural health conditions. The acquisition is the company’s first since 2020 and comes within a year of Sullivan Street’s acquisition of the business in September 2024.
The deal is described as introducing a community-based treatment model to UKAT, broadening its clinical offering and enabling it to offer a dedicated secondary care pathway, supporting long-term recovery and helping to improve outcomes in a more sustainable, affordable way.
Oliver Marshall, partner at Sullivan Street Partners, commented: "We’re delighted to have completed the acquisition of Providence – from the outset, our plan has been to grow UKAT both through new site development and high-quality acquisitions, and so we are excited to bring a business of this scale and reputation into the group.”
"Providence not only cements UKAT’s leadership in residential rehabilitation but also establishes a valuable platform for delivering care in the community and expanding the group’s behavioural and mental health service offering."
Following the acquisition, the integration process has begun, with Providence’s expert team joining UKAT.
UKAT Group Chief Executive Daniel Gerrard said that the group was committed to building on Providence’s previous work and that the strategic acquisition meant that the group was now able to offer affordable long-term care.
