Following the closure of The Limes Hotel in Needham Market, Suffolk, last month, the property is to be sold at an upcoming auction.
The Limes Hotel – formerly operated by the Elizabeth Hotels group which went into administration in December 2009 – comprised a popular restaurant, bar and function venue, as well as 11 bedrooms.
KPMG, which is acting as joint administrators for the Elizabeth Hotels group, have now announced that The Limes is to be sold in London, at an auction by Strettons, on 4 April. KPMG had previously attempted to continue trading the hotel as normal following the administration, but had to close it last month, resulting in the loss of 25 members of full and part-time staff.
The Grade II listed hotel, which is described on the Strettons’ website as being 'suitable to re-open as a hotel' or 'suitable for alternative uses,' has no guide price listed.
Last month, local town councillor Phil Wright rallied support in a bid to save the hotel. He said, “It would have been nice to keep it as it was but there is no guarantee of that now. It’s now in the hands of whoever makes the biggest bid, which is a shame.
“Everybody I speak to wants The Limes to re-open as a hotel, restaurant and bar. I know very few things stay the same forever but that was the long term aim for most people,” he added.
