One of the most iconic hotels in Scarborough has been put onto the market following its plunge into administration.
The 118-bedroom Royal Hotel, which is owned by the family-run firm English Rose Hotels Scarborough Ltd, has been located on St Nicholas Street since its opening almost 200 years ago.
The hotel, which currently employs 77 staff members full-time, once welcomed Winston Churchill as a guest, and is well known as being one of the area's most historic hotels. It will continue to trade as normal whilst a buyer is found.
English Rose Hotels Scarborough Ltd was forced to call in the administrators due to a large tax bill, and has also put another of its Scarborough hotels, the Clifton Hotel, up for sale. The Clifton will also continue to trade as normal until a new owner is found.
David Whitehouse, partner at administrators MCR, told the Yorkshire Post, “Both the Clifton and the Royal have strong reputations and high levels of occupancy. There is significant interest in these hotels and we would expect to complete a sale of the hotels as a going concern over the coming weeks.”
According to the Yorkshire Post, the English Rose Hotels Scarborough Ltd's sister company, English Rose Hotels Yorkshire Ltd, has not been affected by the administration.
This long-established pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturer boasts a rich heritage dating back to the 1800s and holds prestigious marketing authorisations to produce, market, and export goods.
A compelling opportunity to invest in a highly specialised, mission-critical vertical SaaS business with strong recurring revenue characteristics, attractive margin profile, and clear pathways to growth.
The business is a leading logistics and fulfillment partner for e-commerce ventures throughout Europe. With significant inroads in Austria, Serbia, and Slovakia, and plans to expand into Spain and France.
