Denis Wick Products Limited, a South West-based manufacturer of mutes, mouthpieces and accessories for brass musical instruments, has been acquired by an Italian music company backed by private equity firm Consilium Private Equity (Consilium).
Formed in 1968, Poole-based Denis Wick Products was founded by renowned musician Denis Wick, who passed away earlier this year. The company has now been acquired by Music Center S.r.l., a specialist in the production of musical instrument components and accessories.
Music Center has existing operations in Europe and North America and the acquisition of Denis Wick Products is described as a “significant step” in its global growth strategy, which is focused around M&A.
The acquisition will see Denis Wick Products become the first brass accessory company within the Music Center Group. The group currently comprises Pisoni pads, Légère reeds and Rovner ligatures.
Stephen Wick, who will retire following the transaction after 20 years with Denis Wick Products, said the acquisition “will provide an exciting opportunity to develop the legacy started by Denis”, adding that Music Center “shares the Company’s vision for traditional craftsmanship alongside product innovation."
Denis Wick Products CEO Steven Greenall said that the deal was “a great outcome for both Music Center and the Wick family – becoming part of Music Center will take us forward on a global stage."
A team from Springboard Corporate Finance, led by Managing Partner Simon Ward and Assistant Director Joe Satchwell, advised Denis Wick Products on the strategic sale. Tax advice, meanwhile, was provided by a Claritas team comprising Iain Wright, Adam Keates and Brandon Laroiya McCarron.
Calling the deal an “important strategic transaction”, Simon Ward commented: “Music Center is the ideal international partner to support Denis Wick’s next phase of growth whilst respecting the heritage of this established British manufacturer."
