Ragdoll Worldwide Ltd, the joint venture which manages pre-school children’s characters including the Teletubbies, In the Night Garden, Brum and Boohbah, is to be placed on the market.
Ragdoll Worldwide was set up as a joint venture by Ragdoll, the children's character business, and BBC Worldwide in 2006.
Ragdoll was founded by children’s television programme maker, Anne Wood, in 1984. It has made over 1,400 programmes for young children, which are viewed in over 120 countries. Still privately owned by the Wood family, Ragdoll itself is not for sale.
It has been revealed by sources that though the process is at an early stage, Ragdoll Worldwide could potentially sell for up to five times earnings, valuing it at between £12 million and £13 million. The company's latest recorded results to 31 March 2010 show a net profit of £2.5m on a turnover of £14.3m.
The creation of Ragdoll Worldwide in 2006 saw the birth of In the Night Garden and Tronji. They were both scheduled to air on the BBC in 2007.
BBC Worldwide manages the international broadcast sales, along with the UK and International licensing of all Ragdoll properties. Ragdoll USA Inc, which forms part of the venture, manages the Ragdoll properties in North America.
