Hotel chain Travelodge has acquired the Midland Grain Warehouse from East Staffordshire Borough Council and plans to transform it into a 68-bedroom hotel.
The Grade-II listed warehouse, located in Miller's Lane, Burton, is to be completely renovated as part of plans to create the new hotel, plus a bar and cafe on the ground floor.
Travelodge paid £745,000 for the historic landmark building, which is scheduled to be completed and opened to paying customers by the middle of next year.
Planning permission for the transformation of the commercial premises - which was previously used as office space for East Staffordshire Borough Council - has already been secured.
A Travelodge spokesman told the Burton Mail, “We are delighted to have been able to secure such a prominent site in Burton and are looking forward to the hotel opening in the summer of 2012.
“Up to 15 jobs will be available at the hotel and all the entry-level roles will be going to the local long-term unemployed through Job Centre Plus,” the spokesman added.
It has been reported that the money generated from the sale will be put towards the regeneration of Burton Town Hall.
