East Anglia’s Two Magpies Bakery has added to its business by buying regional compatriot Love a Taste Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
Suffolk-based Love a Taste trades as Hilton Macarons and makes a range of luxury vegetarian, gluten and alcohol-free macarons made out of Italian meringue. It has developed over 60 flavours such as cherry and orange chocolate.
It was founded in 2019 by husband-and-wife team James Hilton and Andrea O’Keeffe who developed the recipes from their kitchen. It has a wide range of business customers from spas to five-star hotels, restaurants, bakeries, wedding venues, wedding planners, independent cafes and coffee shops. Members of the public with a sweet tooth can also order online.
Two Magpies Bakery, founded in 2012 believes the acquisition will further bolster its presence in the growing gluten free sweet market. Indeed, according to Statista, the global market for gluten-free food is expected to hit $14 billion by 2032, up from $6.7 billion today.
Two Magpies sells a range of bread and pastries, letter box brownies and cakes. It also runs bake school classes and sourdough pizza nights. It has 10 outlets across Norfolk and Suffolk and a team of more than 100 bakers, pastry chefs and baristas.
Steve Magnall, chief executive of Two Magpies, said: "Hilton Macarons is without a doubt one of the best in this space and a perfect fit for us. This acquisition opens new markets for us and gives us an even greater presence in the gluten free sweet market. We are pleased to have agreed the purchase and look forward to growing the brand alongside the Two Magpies Brand.”
James Hilton said: "We have a solid wholesale business and a loyal online customer base, and we are very excited by the enhanced growth prospects for Hilton Macarons given Two Magpies' significant high street presence across East Anglia and access to the resources of a larger group.”
Yasmin Wyatt, operations director at Two Magpies, will be leading the integration of Hilton Macarons into the group.
