Victoria Carpets, the carpet maker responsible for the 55-foot red carpet used for the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Westminster Abbey last April, has been formally put on the market.
The firm called in BDO to start the sale process recently. Victoria has set a deadline for firm offers to be announced for the end of February.
Alexander Anton, the former chairman of Victoria Carpets, told the Times that a sale of the firm was “unlikely to deliver the best value to shareholders.”
The board, however, said in a statement: “The board unanimously believes that the commencement of the formal sales process announced will achieve the objective of realising maximum value for shareholders, whilst safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders.”
Mr Anton, a member of the founding family of Victoria Carpets, acted as the chairman between 2007 and 2010. He is now the boss at New Fortress Finance Holdings, which has an 18 per cent stake.
He wants to install four new appointments on the Victoria Carpets board – Geoff Wilding, Sir Bryan Nicholson, Lady Katherine Innes Ker and Mr Anton himself - to replace two existing non-executive directors Nikki Beckett and Peter Jensen.
