AM Jones Scrap Metal Limited, a family-owned and operated scrap metal business in Cheshire, has been put up for sale with an asking price of £995,000. The one-acre site, which is fully-licensed as a scrap metal and end-of-life vehicle operation, is located on the Tanhouse Industrial Estate in Widnes and turned over close to £500,000 in its latest financial year.
The business was founded in 1959 by Alun Jones, father of current co-owner Steven Jones, who took over the business with his wife Karen in 2005. The owners are now retiring and have engaged commercial and business estate agents Blacks Business Brokers to find a buyer.
The sale price covers the freehold on the property as well as all of the site’s fixtures and equipment, which includes a forklift truck, a hooklift truck with skips, a weighbridge, scrap handlers and grabber and an excavator with shear.
Blacks Business Brokers sales negotiator Megan Sutherst commented: “AM Jones has a fantastic reputation as a professionally run scrap metal business and, as well as a large freehold plot of land, the business is fully equipped with all the machinery that a new owner would need.”
“Despite being six decades old, it is very much a 21st century business, with a modern website and social media presence.”
Sutherst added that the sale was “a great opportunity to acquire a forward-looking business in a great location, with a great reputation” and said she expected “strong interest” in the business.
