Nafield Properties has sold its 42,911 square feet Broers Building to the University of Cambridge for an undisclosed sum.
Nafield Properties is a joint venture between Turnstone Estates and Burall Developments.
The four-story building is located within the university’s 165-acre West Cambridge site and was developed by Turnstone in 2009/10 in partnership with the university.
Used for research and development purposes, the site is home to companies including Nokia, Elektron, Metaswitch, Maplesoft and Base 4. It was designed to foster partnerships between academics, start-ups and established businesses.
Chris Goldsmith, managing director of Turnstone Estates commented: “This was the first time they had collaborated closely with a commercial developer and we were delighted to build such an innovative and technically advanced building and to sell it on to the University with such an impressive range of tenants.”
“The building currently provides the only opportunity for R&D companies, form early stage to multi nationals, to benefit form on-site proximity and easy access for networking and collaboration with the academics, researchers and students working on the West Cambridge site,” he continued.
The University has outlined permission to create another 300,000 sq. ft. of space for commercial R&D on the West Cambridge site.
