A landmark building in Nottingham’s Lace Market has been put for sale with an asking price of over £500,000.
The property, which has served various functions since it was built in the 16th century, has been empty for 22 years and is said to have suffered from both internal and external damage in this time. The former County House in High Pavement had been in the hands of a property development company but was handed over to receivers following a legal dispute, the Nottingham Post reported.
Victor Ktori, the head of Savills in Nottingham, is handling the sale on behalf of Begbies Traynor.
The building has an area of 9,700 square feet and is split over three storeys. The seller has advised that it could be used as office space or alternatively could be turned into a hotel.
In 1646 the property was home to Lady Hutchinson, mother of Colonel Hutchinson who was in command of the garrison that held Nottingham Castle for Parliament during the Civil War and went on to become Governor of Nottingham and the Castle. The County House later became the County Record Office, holding both city and county archives.
Mr Ktori said: “The County House is an imposing building with impressive architectural features and a prominent position in the heart of Nottingham's creative quarter.
"The layout and size of the building would lend well to a number of uses and, while consideration needs to be given to its listed status and location within the Lace Market conservation area, the property already boasts current authorised use as offices and conditional granted planning for change of use to hotel."
Interest is said to be high among investors, developers and occupiers.
