The Axiom Centre in Cheltenham is on the market after lying derelict for 13 years.
The building was a former arts centre and there have been various campaigns to get it up and running again since it closed in 2000 over concerns about the way in which it was being run.
Reports confirmed that the building was on the market back in 2003 for £500,000, but it seems that the sale fell through and the building remained stagnant until 2005 when, after seven bids were put through to the council, the property was finally sold to Haysport Properties Ltd for around £700,000.
The buyer reportedly had plans to develop the building into flats and a basement cafe, but these came to nothing.
County Councillor Klara Sudbury told the Gloucester Citizen that she was pleased to hear that the property has changed hands again and that she was hopeful that the building will be brought back into use in some form: “I’m really pleased it is now up for sale. The owners have done nothing with it since they bought it and many people have approached them to try to buy the site.
“This is fantastic news for the town and for the people who are passionate about seeing the Axiom in use again.”
In a prime location, this freehold business opportunity includes a detached, well-equipped bakery factory along with a retail outlet and cafe, all part of a family business with a century of trading history.
