The Manton Estate, a famous racehorse training stables, is going to be put up for sale at the end of this month, the owners have announced this week.
Manton is a 2,200-acre estate in Wiltshire that has over 200 boxes across four separate yards. The site also includes Manton House, Manton Lodge, 17 staff cottages, 10 flats and two stable staff hostels.
The Sangster family, who own the vast stables, informed the 100 staff that work on the estate of their intentions to sell the property on Tuesday morning (22 April). It is the second time the owners have sought a buyer as Manton was placed on the market back in 1989, five years after Robert Sangster had bought it for a purported £10 million, but no offers were made to match the asking price.
In 2012 George Baker was appointed as the sixth trainer to work for the Sangster family on the site. He works alongside Brian Meehan who has overseen the development and upkeep of the estate since 2006.
“Manton's sale would mark the end of an era fashioned by the late Robert Sangster, who helped transform the bloodstock industry from the 1970s,” the Racing Post reported.
Manton Estate was originally developed as a training centre by Alec Taylor, who sent out eight Classic winners among more than 50 to have been trained at the property.
