For sale signs have gone up at the struggling Chesterfield Hotel after it was officially put on the market by agent Eddisons Commercial Limited, reports the Derbyshire Times.
The commercial property has a rateable guide value of £124,000 after it has stood empty for around a year. The trading company that owns the property, GS Trading VI (Chesterfield) Ltd, is reportedly in debt to the tune of £727,235.
The advertisement for the hotel say the following about the facilities: "The property comprises a substantial brick built hotel dating from the Victorian period providing accommodation principally over three floors and a basement. The property comprises 73 letting rooms with extensive restaurant, ballroom and function rooms and a leisure suite with a pool. There is on-site parking for about 60 vehicles.”
Chesterfield Hotel was a major employer, with 45 jobs being lost when it closed down, and was a local social venue for almost 140 years, making it one of the town's longest-running businesses.
