The former offices of the Plymouth Herald, located in the north of the city, are up for sale with a price tag of £5 million.
The newspaper moved to a new site in the city centre last year and has reported itself this week that its previous residency is on the market. Colliers International and Vickery Holman are managing the sale.
The site, which is located just off the A386 Tavistock Road, has a futuristic design and the Plymouth Herald reports that offices are available to buy or let on a floor-by-floor basis. The full office building, otherwise known as the Ship, has been valued at £5 million.
The Ship was designed by Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and completed in 1993. It has since received multiple design awards – including the Royal Institution of British Architect Award in 1994 – that have seen it become celebrated as one of the south-west’s best known and most distinctive buildings.
The office building has been stripped, leaving large open areas with ceilings up to eight-metres-high ready to be occupied. The space is said to be suitable for a variety of purposes but its proximity to Derriford Hospital makes it particularly attractive for businesses in the medical sector.
Mike Oldrieve of Vickery Holman said: “As you would expect the offices are fitted out to a moderns standard, largely open plan with raised floors, suspended ceilings with category II recessed lighting and full air conditioning throughout. There is also an excellent level of parking with 244 spaces on site.
“Whatever businesses are attracted by the next stage of development, the Ship will maintain a very high profile on Plymouth’s business scene.”
