Buyers have just a few days remaining to submit bids for two large police-owned buildings for sale.
The Hampshire Constabulary is selling off Alpha Park in Chandler’s Ford and its West Hill head offices in Winchester, as part of a 30-strong portfolio sell off of police stations, operational buildings and residential properties, the Basingstoke Gazette has reported.
Alpha Park, which extends to 166,112 square feet, has been standing empty for five years following its £9.6 million purchase in 2008. The police have since spent over £1.8 million on providing 24/7 security for the building, originally intended for use as a new police base. The refurbishment costs to render the building fit-for-purpose would have totalled £15 million.
West Hill has an eight-storey 1960s block and other buildings on its 5.84 acreage, with outline planning permission for a knock down and build of 294 homes.
Offers can be made for Alpha Park up until Thursday, while those interested in West Hill have a deadline to meet of Friday this week.
Commercial property agent Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has been tasked with selling the properties.
The proceeds from the sale will be used for new police headquarters, two new police investigation centres and refurbishment of existing properties. The cash saved through the sale, expected to exceed £40 million, will be injected into frontline services.
